Monday 1/26:
  • Discuss the end of the play in small groups:
    • What lessons do you take away from the play?  What does the play have to say about our lives today?  Given that important men of our time period -- Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi -- found inspiration in Thoreau's actions, what inspiration do you think people dealing with our society's problems would take today?
    • Thoreau died at the age of 44 in 1862.  What do you think he would have accomplished or done if he had lived a longer life?
    • Which mad do you feel has the better view of life, of Transcendentalism, of social change -- Waldo or Henry?
  • Work on  conflict and theme chart
