- Juxtaposition of time and space -- be careful to notice flashbacks and flashforwards as Thoreau moves from the jail cell to his past and Emerson's past. Use the stage diagram on page 2 of the packet to help you pay attention to how Lawrence and Lee juxtapose events from the past and present to draw attention to an aspect of Thoreau's character
- We read pages 1-8 in class
- Homework: bring annotated lyrics and complete a journal paragraph on the back of your lyrics. In an informal but thoughtful paragraph, describe what your lyrics mean to you, why you selected them, how they inspire you, and what beliefs of Transcendentalism you see in the song
