WEEK AT A GLANCE:
Monday 2/9
- Using the story "Rainy Day and Mondys" (scroll down to ACT II and find the right facing arrow to play this segment) from This American Life as a model, note how reporters move between expository information (facts and background) to narrative (stories and experiences). Consider the power of human stories/pathos to illustrate facts/logos
- For homework tonight --
- go to the topics page on This American Life, and find some key words related to your topic. You may not find an exact match, but you will find something in the same neighborhood -- think it through, you will find something.
- Click on the topic and look at the stories (blurbs) and find one that matches your topic in some way
- Listen to the first ten minutes of the story
- Complete a T-chart like we did in class today with three details for facts and background, three details for narrative, and one explanation for theme.
- Think about how the reporter moves between facts to explain an issue and experience to illustrate the human part of the story
