Submitting your paper to turnitin.com for plagiarism check

OK, take a breath, you're almost there.

Here are three things to remember --
  • the paper that you submit to turnitin.com is the one that I will grade so make sure it is your final draft
  • make sure that your works cited page is included in the document that you upload -- it should be the final page of your document
  • use the "single file upload" method not the "copy & paste upload" method.  Otherwise, it will mess up your MLA formatting

Here are the steps

  1. Go to www.turnitin.com
  2. Log into your account or create a student account
  3. Then go to the "enroll in a class"
  4. Enter the following class ID and password: class ID: 6322247 password: amlit13
  5. After you click submit, you will arrive at your class page with the American Voices Research Paper assignment. Click on the SUBMIT button
  6. Choose “Single file upload,” enter the title of your paper, browse for it on the computer (as if you are attaching it to an email), and select upload. After you preview the paper, select submit
  7. On the confirmation page, select “go to portfolio page” to view the originality report. On the portfolio page, click on the title of your paper to load the document viewer. Be sure to disable the pop-up blocker (on the upper bar of the browser, right click on ‘allow pop-ups for this website’)
  8. In the upper left corner of the document viewer, select the originality tab. It will give you a percentage of plagiarized material and it will highlight the plagiarized material.

PLEASE NOTE – Turnitin.com sometimes reports titles and quotes as plagiarized, so do not be alarmed for a percentage of 10% or less. I only use this service as a tool to look at what is going on in your paper – a high percentage is not an automatic suspicion of plagiarism. It just means that I will take a closer look at your work.

Please email me freely with your comments and questions at krista.bowen@cobbk12.org. Although the school does provide me with voicemail, I have access to email much more readily. Please extend me the courtesy of one or two days’ time to respond. I also encourage students to speak with me directly as I will typically coordinate with students to handle resolutions.
